first sighting, and probably earliest one......

.....of a house martin over the garden. Just one and been here on and off all day. I haven't kept dates for every year, but think this is possibly the earliest sighting from indoors.

  • 10th of April was your 1st arrival noted last year Robbo ;-)

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Wow nice to see, and it feels like Spring is here after all. I think birds are adapting to the climate changes in many different ways now

We did see lots of House Martins last year.  One of the adjoining neighbours houses, I was convinced that a nest sight used in the gable end of the building was used for a few nesting birds. It was a popular place and the owners leave it be to be used by the birds. I see they have bird feeders out so we know they are bird friendly

Sadly not a Swallow in sight for us in South Wales. So sad not to see them as we used to in Bedford.

One thing that upset me a bit is my neighbour next door to us in Wales - by the way we are all detached houses here - my OH mentioned that he had nesting House Martins on the roof area of the gable end of his house above his side door, much to our surprise. We could have a close up of the birds after all and that is a good thing.
Then my neighbour decided to remove the nest like it was a bit of unwanted rubbish. We tried to explain and he was not interested in listening to us.
It amazes me how indifferent some people are who should know better would be so disrespectful.of our wildlife.
Strange that he has bird feeders out in his garden. He has his priorities all wrong

Takes all types to make the world go around I guess
