This has been known about by all of those that have visited RSPB Saltholme in 2022 on a regular basis and I had a few glimpses in 2022 and also in to 2023. Wondering what I’m posting about. Well I’ve seen this lots of times over the decades with my best view in 1973 at Leighton Moss. For those that don’t know this is part of blog from the RSPB today on these community forums.
Regards,
Ian.

My best ever view of a Bittern was in 1973 at Leighton Moss. Similar as this video from Minsmere. I’ve seen Bitterns at Minsmere before like last year in 2022 and 49 years earlier but only in flight. This video from Minsmere shiows the Bittern booming at Minsmere. This video not taken by mr but someone else on YouTube.
Here's a more recent one from Minsmere for you Ian :-)
The booming is so low frequency (centres around 150Hz for those interested) the low quality speakers in most phones won't reproduce it properly - so use headphones or a PC with proper speakers for the full experience!
