Blackbirds in my Garden

I have had my fair share of friendly Blackbirds in my garden over the years.

These are a few examples I have posted on here

A small part of the garden is wilderness for wildlife and the Blackbird family are making good use of it

  • I need to get a good size that I can use for my photos.

Can anyone suggest the dimensions that are the best to use, so my photos are the same size

What type of file extensions do people use.  I have used .<Jpeg>

    Thank you

  • I also want to say that these all where taken by a Canon G15 camera though I did not take note of the other details like shutter speed etc... I tend to like to keep it simple.

I have also updated my camera since, and the new one I have is a lot more complicated and it needs plenty of practice to get used to the settings etc...

Got to get out there and do my thing.

  • I am not the best to advise on uploading as mine vary in size each time I do it. But I tend to re-size to about 3,000 pixels on the long side in my editing program. Then when I go to upload to the site, after selecting 'Use Rich Formatting', I set the size there in the first box to 400 before selecting my image. After uploading the thumbnail size seems to vary, but it can be clicked on to view full size. Hope that helps a bit, but someone else can probably tell you better.

  • I use 800 and 0 in the two boxes. I only ever crop and sometimes lighten/ darken my pictures, no major post production, and then I just make sure the image is sub 4mb

heres some instructions. I  find this is an easy way of doing it. Press more then a small menu will come up that said edit

Then press the image and it will be highlighted

And there will will be a option to edit remove or convert to link if you press edit

It will come up with a box with 2 small squares

This is the dimensions how big or small you want it or find is best is up to you

but for me I go with 280 or 380. If I want a bigger image I go with 890

but if you make sure the number in the right and left  box is the same number then I find that works

  • In reply to Zo Clark:

I will give it a try tomorrow as been going around in circles today with finding things, because I am getting used to the new software we have.

So tomorrow is another day, so will try to make all the photos the same size

Even though you couldn’t make them all the same size there still big enough you can see the subject in the photo and there very good
  • Thank you Zo for your kind response

I felt a little under the weather so spent time today sleeping - must be age catching up not a spring chicken anymore LOL.

Feeling perkier now, so will do a little work tonight, and I will.put the same photos in again and try to get them the correct size so they are all the same.

I am also have to see if I can get the swing of photos on the BirdForum and find myself a good photo editor for cropping etc..shading....light dark.

I have Microsoft editor before my hard-drive crashed, and I understand that there are good photo editors for free in the market. Another question to ask here because I have been so out of touch.

  • If you are doing your editing on a laptop or desktop computer, the big questions are do you want free or paid for and what is your editing experience. For paid for I find Photoshop is the best, but it is not an easy program to start learning and is a steep learning curve to get your head around the features and using them. If you want an easier to use free editing suite I hear Gimp recommended quite often. Also your camera manufacturer may well do free downloadable editing software, a lot do. As a stand alone resizing program, Pixresizer is a good free one.
