Just to say I’ve done the survey from the Big Garden Birdwatch this morning of which took in many decades ago when the Big Garden Birdwatch first started. What year that was I can’t remember as I must be getting older. The area that I live is very urban with front and back garden. Never really had any unusual birds in my garden for this annual. But in 1960 and 1961 after I started Burdwatching as a 5 year old in 1958 and as my father opened his curtains on a Saturday morning in 1960 and there where hundreds upon hundreds of unusual birds eating berries from the far side of my street. Remember just two years after my Father had got me interested in birdwatching in 1958. And then we both had a look inside my first serious birdwatching book from earlier in 1960. And as you can guess it was Waxwings. Strangely two-three days later an article in the North East regions local newspaper with the title: Waxwings Invade North East and the same happened again in 1961. But strangely every year since 1962 Waxwings have never appeared in all those years in those same trees with berries. Although I have seen Waxwing other parts of the UK. But strangely not in those trees opposite side of my home and still produce berries Here below are my Big Garden Birdwatch Survey results from this morning Friday 27th January 2023 and then I was out for the whole day birdwatching!

Ian.
