This was an RSPB film from the 1970’s that was profuced by the then RSPB Film Unit which produced RSPB Films every year for the RSPB Annual Film Shows that where shown all over the UK and then this film was produces and made by the RSPB in the Outer Hebrides and was called The Corncrake and the Croft.

  • I remember seeing this film at a local group evening

  • An interesting film.

What I found interesting was the potato harvesting, the potatoes seemed to be all at ground level rather than in mounds which has been commonplace for many decades and longer.

    Many thanks for sharing.

The Annual Film Shows where one of the highlights of the year for RSPB members. This other film called Osprey made by the RSPB Films Unit after been shown all over the UK in 1979 and 12 months later was broadcast on BBC TV. I did post this link a few years ago, but for anyone who’s never seen this RSPB Film lasting 50 minutes, here it is.

  • Mike I wonder if there is not enough depth of topsoil to build up the rows as on the mainland or they cannot get machines in to do the job.

That could be the case, a lack of top soil.
