Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • How do I stop the squirrel eating the nuts ?
  • Help needed to deter the grey squirrel from eating the bird food out off a squirrel proof feeder, he manages to get his head in and eat the nuts!!!. Ihave refrained from putting nuts in for the birds which I love to watch when they visit my garden. Deidre

Depending on how the squirrel(s) accesses the feeders, if there are trees within a couple of metres, they will comfortably leap across, but if they're climbing the pole, then a squirrel baffle should do the trick, but it needs to be around 1.5-1.8mtrs above ground level, or they will leap on to it.

They are available from many outlets,

Thanks for that . There is a bush near the bird table so he climbs up there . Trees not close to the bird table.

    You're welcome.

As for stopping squirrels, if there's a way, they'll find it at whatever cost to themselves.

  • I think solving the problem of squirrels robbing our nut feeders is on par with finding a cure for the common cold, we will probably be still discussing the problem in many years to come. A lot of us gave up trying ages ago and just accepy it as part of garden bird watching
