The RSPB account of their 20 year adventure to reintroduce farming methods which encouraged the return of huge numbers of endangered farmland birds is so encouraging. I grew up in the 1950s in Orkney where my grandparents had a small 30 acre mixed arable/beef farm. I remember the haunting call of curlews, lapwings and sweet nightingales overhead which still give me great joy. It was a time when their farming methods would now be called mainly organic but a time when farming and nature seemed to co-exist happily and naturally. How can we get back some semblance of making room for nature among our farming communities on a large scale? Any ideas what would make a major impression? Thanks Carol
