Had a lovely visit to Jersey Zoo/ Durrell Wildlife Park today, the main intention was to go to the new butterfly house that opened recently. It was an excellent way to spend a chilly, grey day. Most of the animals were sensibly tucked up in their houses under heat lamps.

Happy Birthday Caroline, looks like you had an enjoyable day at the zoo/wildlife park and saw some fine species; look forward to the next pics.
May have to wait a little bit as my photo editor is playing up and keeps crashing while I'm trying to resize the photos - argghh
Ok hopefully sorted.
Then into the warmth of the butterfly house. It is very new and I think is going to be a success. There were a number of excited small people who managed to contain themselves and not squish any Butterflies. Some of the photos are off the iPhone as it took my camera a bit to adjust to the temperature change and damp as theses are rainforest specialists
Morphs
Longwing Tiger (I think)
Scarlet Swallowtail
we spotted a couple of Cats that the staff member carefully collected and took off for incubation
Just a couple more
This delightful young lady came swinging through the ropes and very purposeful posed.
back to the flutters
a gorgeous Orange Oakleaf that took advantage of the tortoise as a suitable basking platform.

Happy birthday, Caroline. Good to see the Durrell Zoo is still going strong. The butterfly house sounds like a good addition. I've been going to the butterfly event that the RHS Wisley hold annually between January and March. It's a nice experience in the depths of winter.
Happy birthday, Caroline, and it looks like you had a very nice day out at the Zoo and Wildlife Park.
Happy birthday and what a wonderful place to spend your birthday.
Jersey Zoo is a place I'd like to visit, I've heard and seen a lot of good reports about it.
Thanks for sharing your birthday treat Caroline, I do love to see these exotic butterflies, we have a temperate house at Wingham Wildlife Park which is only 20 minutes from mine!
Sounds like you had a great birthday, CinJ. Belated good wishes!
I hope you had a lovey Birthday
