Yesterday and again today, the Pigeon Mafia and I were visited by a delightful white Dove. All Doves are Pigeons, so this isn't a new species for the garden. It must have come from a wedding or funeral or some such event. I was glad to see it return today. It spent a fair part of the afternoon fluttering down and landing on the window ledges at the back of the house. It also landed on the open kitchen door and even flew in and out of the back room. I can only assume that it is looking for a loft or dovecote. It did eat some seed, but only on its own. The Dove does associate with the rest of the Pigeon Mafia, but one or two gave it a peck. Nothing serious, more of a 'get in line' message. These birds tend not to do too well in the wild. For now at least, it has a source of decent food and water, so as long as it has a safe overnight roost, it should return each day.
A beautiful looking bird, MC. Glad to see it's been taken care of.
Sorry Paul, I've only just seen this thread but lovely to hear Daisy Dove is to join a flock of similar doves where I hope she lives out a happy life. Beautiful photos, she's such a pretty bird.
I've only just seen this thread, Paul. Good news about Daisy Dove. There is a colony of white Doves at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, or at least there was the last several times we were there. I don't know if they would agree to having more birds but might be worth a try if Sarah needs another place to release another Dove.
