Yesterday and again today, the Pigeon Mafia and I were visited by a delightful white Dove. All Doves are Pigeons, so this isn't a new species for the garden. It must have come from a wedding or funeral or some such event. I was glad to see it return today. It spent a fair part of the afternoon fluttering down and landing on the window ledges at the back of the house. It also landed on the open kitchen door and even flew in and out of the back room. I can only assume that it is looking for a loft or dovecote. It did eat some seed, but only on its own. The Dove does associate with the rest of the Pigeon Mafia, but one or two gave it a peck. Nothing serious, more of a 'get in line' message. These birds tend not to do too well in the wild. For now at least, it has a source of decent food and water, so as long as it has a safe overnight roost, it should return each day.
Handsome looking bird MC!
Looks as if a Dovecote will be your next project MC, booootiful bird!
Such a smart looking bird I think, had a couple in the garden but you are right MC, they don't seem to last long worse luck.
Strange how they seem to know where to go to get a good meal!!! I wonder if the Pigeon Mafia will put this one to work getting more food because of its looks!!!
He returned again today and spent some time trotting around by the kitchen door. Once again he ignored the seed put out for the Ferals. At least he's eating well and I can only assume he's found a safe roosting spot.
What a beautiful bird to have in your area MC, I do hope it lives a good long time with your feeding & proves the stats wrong.
Very nice Paul.
A beautiful symbol of peace and oh boy we could do with some of it now
Success! Sarah has collected Daisy Dove and after a few weeks of assessment and quarantine, she will be taken to a centre near Derby to join a flock of similar birds.
The best possible news Paul, thanks for caring!
