Mrs WJ and I were in Norfolk last week, up near Cley. A lovely week of birds & photography (still sorting the 6000 images), but one evening as dusk fell, an Osprey flew over the cottage we were staying in! It was nearly dark and a little way off, but I managed to get a quick picture....
Sorry, couldn't resist :-)

You RATBAG! Those hideous things are an insult to the word osprey.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Lol! I know, they are the most ungainly of aircraft. OK, here's a real one for you - not Norfolk I'm afraid, this one's from Scotland
That's absolutely stunning. Much more like it!
Closest I can get you in Norfolk is a "mere" Marsh Harrier I'm afraid, but it at least is from the same day as the "Osprey"

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I think they're quite clever technology. Two flew over my house accompanied by two "Whitehawks" and a Merlin while Obama was staying at the Celtic Manor resort. As an aviation buff I could hardly believe my eyes.....
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
Wendy S said:Not sure you would feel like that Clare if it was used to get you out of a tight spot. They must have been on exercise at a 'drome near us recently impressive bit of kit. Mind you I would still prefer to see a feathered version over a local reservoir.
Love the marsh harrier - nothing 'mere' about that, unless you count Minsmere!
Actually, it was a Cley Harrier this time :-)
WJ, you horror. When Clare told me you had seen a Osprey in Norfolk
I had grabbed my camera and car keys and was about to head up to Norfolk when she told me it was an aircraft and an ugly one at that.

Oh dear, the trouble I've caused :-)
Still worth going to Norfolk - you get this sort of thing on the side of the road - don't even have to get up early. This was half 9 in the morning beside the main A149 coast road
