Birding Packed Lunches

Paul A's picture of his packed lunch has inspired me to start this thread. What do you have in your packed lunch? If you prefer to dine in style, which pubs, RSPB cafes or takeaways do you recommend? Pictures would be good too.

I'll start with our normal:

  • Cheese and onion sandwich
  • One (or two for a full day) energy bars
  • One pack (each) of cheese and onion crisps
  • Bottle of tap water

Our best ever lunch (late) was in Sardinia. We'd just finished a 12 mile walk in 35 degree heat and had core temperatures rather hotter than the sun. We staggered onto the terrace of a sea-front cafe and ordered huge bowls of Italian ice-cream with half litre of Peroni  chasers - wonderful :-)

"Let loose the Kraken!"

  • If I  hadn't just eaten a chicken curry I'd be heading north on the M6 right now.

You've  already agreed to adopt Alan, will you adopt me too? LOL

  • Add another name to the adoption list, that looks delicious. :-)

  • That looks strangely familiar :)

Although I said I'd like to go to LM in the near future, I don't think I'll get there before the end of the week so I will probably miss you and Mike (and Jim) this time around. If I can push it forward, I will, but if I can't then let's still do the Salmon or Woolston trip sometime in Sept.

LOL, Tony and Paul .... consider yourselves both adopted  !      Chicken curry sounds wonderful, I haven't made one for ages.

@ Nigel,  this one is different to the one I made last time; this one is a bit more spicy but without taking your head off  lol

If you can't make it up to LM  (we are there till Wednesday)  we'll catch up another time and I'll get the Woolston gang to let me know if and when the salmon are running and let you know.

You have chance of a good few days at LM, forecast seems sunny and bright.

I had double the quanity of steak mince (1.5kg)  so added almost two glasses of wine !   the only stock was the wine, fresh cherry tomatoes and also a tin of chopped tomatoes topped with a quarter litre water.  Forgot,   I did add a few drops of a very luxurious aged Balsamic vinegar  !          Very often I just see what's in the fridge that needs using and goes together well (like best mates as Jamie Oliver would say !  )  and try to conjure up some sort of a meal   lol      I hate waste so tend to use up a lot of spare vegetables in my stews/casseroles/soups, etc.,
