Art and Photography mixed together

Hello there

Still getting the hang of my G15 once more,  and I thought this would be a nice start for me

This is part of David's artwork of Harvest Mice in a field

  • What a lovely picture David has painted. Now, as a flower arranger, I would love to sort those carnations!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • In reply to Catlady:

Thank you William my partner and I are artistic. Dave is currently painting and he loves it

Catlady thank you. I think I did something right cut the Carnation stems at an angle. Any more advice about arranging flowers would be appreciated. Got a lot to learn here.

  • Hi Kathy, some simple tips to keep your flowers lasting longer

A clean vase and plenty of cold water, 3/4 full
Cut stems at an angle (as you have already done)
Strip any leaves that are in the water (to stop water going green and yukky and smelly)
Change the water every few days (I don't always do this and if in a clear vase you can see if it needs it)
Keep them somewhere cooler, although you want to see them, especially if you receive a lovely bunch
Sort them so that they look pretty and enjoy looking at them

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Thank you Catlady

We buy Carnations each week to brighten up the house and it cheers us up

So the leaves need to be removed so they do not sit in the water - did not know that - now will do that 3/4 full I will do that too.

What do you think off the flower food sachets you get? Do they help increase the life of the flowers

  • I am sure the sachets of either powder or liquid will help. What I have found is that if you use them in clear vases, after a while, once the case is washed, they will film over, you can actually see it when you dry the vase, it will mist over. Use the food in pottery vases. You can add a 2p piece, lemonade, soda water or even a very small drop of bleach to the water to keep them longer.

Seeing as you have carnations a lot another wee tip is, to snipp off all the wee buds at the tops of the sprays, and maybe on the stems as well, if they are tight closed, they will never open, makes you arrangement look nicer

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Thankyou Catlady

Will take your advice on board
