  Laries are a mixable selection of species.
  
  There are commonalites between more than a couple of the species. But these are specific (with discerning characteristics) to their general locality on the globe. Because many gulls are not truly oceanic. Coastal, yes.
  
  When they come into contact they can cross-breed (genetic stuff).
  
  From a taxonomic viewpoint the waders (or shorebirds) have been a 'wastebin'. I'm not so sure they are as inter-related as laries. But that requires a fair bit more science to determine a level of certainty.
  
  Are robins old-world flycatchers or thrushes?

  Hi-
  
  I refer to them as Northern Red- Breasted Robin-Chats ;
  
  They are in the same family as the Old World Flycatchers - they are not Turdidae like thrushes- note the legs !
