Magical mystery beetle quiz #9

Forget the fab four, think the fab 12. For the next 12 weeks, it’s quiz time again and this time, I will be testing your knowledge of British beetles. Many beetles have metallic or iridescent coloured elytra and thorax, making them - the real shining stars of the show. Beetles can live in a wide range of habitats. Some can fly and others cannot. Some have long antennae, and others long legs. Some have even mastered the art of disguise! Prepared to be be(et)dazzled and if you’re feeling lucky, perhaps you can even guess the bonus quiz question!

ooops !! I was on better terms with our local bobbies, they often gave me a lift home from the next village pub as we lived opposite the local police station.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Oh dear E!!!  Reminds me of when I got caught speeding in 30 mph limit through sleepy little village I didn't even realise was there ... was working as a civillian in local Constabulary at the time & had to type my own summons!!  Needless to say I pleaded guilty with no mitigating circumstances, paid the fine & had licence endorsed for next three years & was ribbed incessantly for a while!

  • this chap was really nasty

exchanged addresses and insurance but remarked he would make sure I was summonsed

Ten minutes later a policeman came round to arrest me

as no one was hurt even he couldn't see what all the fuss was about

I had no damage to the van I was driving and he had a broken tail light. He sent me the bill for the entire car being resprayed.

as  20year old tyre fitter you can imagine how I felt
