Hi, I have been feeding the birds in my garden since new year. I have a pole with a wire dish and also a ground feeder, I also have a hanging seed feeder and hanging fat ball feeder. I get an enormous amount of Rooks and Jackdaws and the food is literally gone almost as soon as I put it out. My garden is really open and there are no trees or bushes. I am dismayed tonight to find a rat under the feeder. I get an immense amount of joy watching the birds feed and feel really sad that I may have to stop. My other half has a real fear of rats otherwise I would turn a blind eye as long as it remains as just the one rat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Rodent Entry Points - The Complete Guide • Pest-Tech.pdfRats and other pests can very easily get into anyone’s home. Rats can breed very fast. If they get into your home apart from disease they. Rats can naw through plaster and electric cables. If rats are not dealt with very fast you will be over run with rats and if any naw through electric cable that can cause fires. I call pest control out straight away as if anyone puts of and does nothing. You will yourself overun with rats and then is more difficult to deal with and will cost more money. I never hesitate. I call pest control out straight away. Also any tall trees etc then rats can get on to your roof an then any spaces they might try and get in that way. If it is one rat at the moment. There will be other rats. The they breeed very east. Best dealt with straight away as you could find find yourself overun with rats. There where rare in a neighbours garden and I had call out pest conytol myself as was starting be an infestation with young young rats coming in to my garden. If not dealt with straight away it will cost more to control and more difficult to get of any rats. I would rather have cats in my garden than rats.
Regards,
Ian.
The RSPB itself has to control the Rat population and helped eradicate rats in places worldwide as well..

Thank you for your reply. There is nowhere the rat can get into my property. I will stop feeding the birds so that there is no food source
