Hi,
I live in a flat in Hackney, London and I have been growing some plants on my balcony. Over the past couple of weeks, I noticed we were being visited by quite a few pigeons, and over the weekend, two pigeons were particularly interested in a large container that has a spiky mahonia in it. I thought they might be looking for a spot for a nest, so I put a shiny cd and some foil to put them off. It didn't work! One egg was left there this morning. The pigeons don't seem to have returned.
What should I do? How long should I wait until I can assume the egg has been abandoned? I am going to water the tubs, but should I not water the tub with the egg in it?
Thank you!
Sorry, no one has replied yet. Post quickly, go to the next page with all the Opsrey ones just now. I can't help, but this will bump your post up, and hopefully, someone can help.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you! That's very kind.
There are now two eggs and the birds are visiting regularly. I'm contuing to water the plants.

as there are now two eggs I think you can say that the nest is active - the pigeons will start to incubate once the female has finished laying - incubation is about 18 days and once hatched they fledge between 25-30 days, and if the adult birds are happy with the site the whole cycle starts over again. Now that there are eggs it is illegal to tamper with the nest in any way so it looks like you will be sharing your balcony space with pigeons

Thank you for your reply - that's really useful. We will leave them be. If possible, though, I would really like to avoid them doing it again. Is there anything I can do to put them off, once these have fledged?
