Robin stuck in garden- advice?

A baby Robin has been in our courtyard garden for at least 24 hours. Very tame, takes food, no sign of parents, all puffed up. Does not seem to be able to fly. What should we do?

  • Morning Lucy...are you sure it's a baby as breeding season is only just beginning

  • Hi Linda, no, not sure. But looks a bit inexperienced! Assume very cold by the puffy feathers. Should we just leave it? Seems happy enough but not budging or flying away.

Young Robins don't look like the adults do they are mostly brown with speckled chest like in the pic below courtesy of BD

I think perhaps it's an adult you have that could be sick...am not really sure there is much you can do without causing it further distress and with birdflu rife at the moment not many places are taking sick or injured animals....Best just to observe for now I think...hopefully others with more knowledge than me might be able to offer more assistance soon ;-)

  • Thank you Linda. Will do.
PS Never excuse a Scottish accent

Lol...sometimes the odd slang word slips in Lucy lol
Sorry nobody else has replied but our experts seem to be absent the now.
    Please keep us updated... ;-)
