Query re Dunnock anatomy

That is not normal. How old was she when you rescued her? It reminds me of a bot fly hole

Hi, I estimate she was about five days old when we found her. Her eyes started opening a couple of days after that.

I would be a little concerned, it’s worth phoning and chatting to a wildlife rehabbed if you can. A Dunnock should be ready to leave the nest at around 12 days sometimes a bit later but 4 weeks seems quite a long time.

Thanks - she's actually doing really well. I've rigged up a contraption in the garden so she's getting used to it out there, spending about four hours outside before it gets hot. She'll be released by the end of the week - just want to get her over the heat and thunderstorms so she's got the best chance of making it on her own. I was just concerned about the hole in her neck - there's nothing that can be done with it and she's thriving despite it, but it probably explains why she was out of the nest so young.
