Egyptian goose

Hello all. I’ve had an unusual visitor (at least for me) over the last few days. A single Egyptian goose has been coming to my duck pond and seems to be attracted by the chicken dishes and taking layers mash spillings on the floor. We are on ASHDOWN Forest in East Sussex and I just wondered if anyone knows how common these birds are in this area and perhaps why this is a single bird, as I thought they were normally in pairs or groups.

  • There seems to be small breeding colonies of Egyptian Geese in many corners of the country which all originated probably from escapees from private collections. I don't think it is so unusual to see them on their own or in couples although I have not seen one in our bit of N. Yorkshire for a while
