Collared doves often nest in our back garden, using a large conifer. About three weeks ago, I was surprised to find half an eggshell. It seemed crazy to be hatching a chick at this time of the year. A pair of doves were often in the garden.
Now that temperatures have fallen, there is no sign of the adult birds.
This morning I found a chick under the tree. It was barely alive.
I placed in iin a container with a warm, wrapped, bottle of water, and some bird food.
It is gradually recovering, and shows no sign of injury. It's tail feathers are not fully developed.
I would welcome some advice on what to do next.
Unfortunately I'm not able to advise, other than say it might be wisest to speak to a vet or directly to someone from the RSPB.
Hopefully someone will see this and be able to offer some advice, but if nothing within 24 hrs then it would be best to seek out professional advice.
