What's the feather?

Hello!

I've just joined - and inspired to find out more about two feathers found on a recent walk.

I've looked online but can't find anything online that matches perfectly. The closest is a Tawny but I'm not 100% if that's it.

They were both on the ground in a woodland area, about 50-100m apart.

Any knowledge and insights would be most welcome!

Thank you :-)

Danielle

  • Pheasant is the usual answer with feathers in woods. I am not a feather expert so could well be wrong.
  • As Robbo suggests Pheasant are the best bet.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Yes, I would say the same, female pheasant.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Hi everyone,

Thank you for all of your replies! That's really helpful!

I had seen some photos of pheasant feathers in a few 'what's the feather' round-ups, but they all show pheasant feathers as longer, pointier and browner (i.e. nothing like my ones!). So, after your replies above I did a specific search on pheasant photos and voila, there's a match :-)

Thank you again for taking the time to help with my (now solved) mystery.

    Have great weekends,
    Danielle
