Hello. Just on the off chance, is there a youngish bird of prey missing in South Derbyshire, maybe escaped from a falconry? S/he is @ 40 to 50 cm/s tall. Big white chevron like marking on his/her chest. Big yellow talons. Appears to have a long white tag query left foot. Is not that bothered by us humans, our horse, or the dogs, but crying out constantly. Iris
Hi Leine, is it possible you saw a young or adult common buzzard ? young would have now fledged but would probably still be with the adults and being fed.
Because of raptor persecution over the years there has been monitoring for various birds of prey including buzzards which have been officially tagged. Here is an example of one monitoring group HERE
This is a photo of a confiding common buzzard I took pics of in Cheshire for you to compare although this one is not ringed.
