This is a black swan isn’t it? I’ve never seen one before and there’s no info in the rspb book I have

Yes, it's a Black Swan. It's native to Australia so an introduced species which is why it doesn't appear in your RSPB book. There's a famous pair down in Dawlish, Devon which has produced a family of 5 cygnets which are doing well. I don't know whether there are other breeding pairs around the UK but I wouldn't be surprised.
