Surprise Visitor

I have had a Yellow Wagtail mooching about on my lawn and patio (in Swindon, Wilts) for the past 20 minutes or so. I thought they were meant to migrate before now. It's the first one I've seen in my garden for a couple of years. Prior to that, there was one who used to visit occasionally. Possibly the same one?

I'm afraid that's a Grey Wagtail not a Yellow but still a nice bird to get in the garden. The BTO have done a good video comparing different species of wagtail which you may find helpful.

As Tony says the Grey Wagtail is a bird not too many of us can count as garden birds,I'd be very happy to tick one on our garden list. It is a mistake that is often made by some less experienced birders because the yellow marking on a male Grey Wag stands out so well. You will most likely have to wait until next Spring for another chance of seeing a Yellow Wagtail but well worth the wait.

I think this is a yellow wagtail I saw at Abberton Reservoir this summer - if that helps at all!
