I am in East Lancashire and a Barn Owl has been around my garden most of the day. There are a lot of trees behind my house and I have heard an owl many times over the months in the early evening, but this barn owl sat on the fence for a while today and then went to a tree. It is sat in the same tree right now washing itself. Is it normal for a barn owl to be awake all day?

Beautiful Birds so pleased you are able to observe them so close, My personal opinion is, as long as you do not think it is injured, then could well have some chicks nested nearby, and out getting food for them.

A lovely find for you Julie. I was amazed to see the red berries on the Hawthorn Tree, my goodness they are so red. I am up at the very top of Scotland, in Caithness. We can add on about a month to what is happening anything garden wise! Welcome to the community by the way.
edit - Rowan Tree!

Indeed it is Bob, it was when I was telling my hubby about the red berries, that Rowan Tree came out and I said "that is not what I wrote on the forum"!!
Looking at mine just now there are not even any flowers yet!!
