Just taking my dog for an evening stroll and was surprised when a middle aged chap popped up on a bungalow roof and before I could get close enough to say anything he had pushed quite a large herring gull nest into a large container and climbed down. The resident birds were crying and circling in distress as he deposited the nest in his recycling bin. I do not know if there were any eggs. Is there any point in reporting this?
Yes - Herring Gulls are red listed - report it. Ideally, try to talk to the local wildlife officer if you can, they'll be more likely to listen. Even if nothing is done, if it is logged and someone in the future reports him for a similar infringement of the Wildlife & Countryside Act, there'll be evidence it isn't a one-off.

He would be in breach of the act unless he had a licence to remove the nest
