I live in south east Kent and often hear birds at night flying in pitch dark , the call is quite shrill but not that loud and almost sounds like a call to others flying with it to stay in contact ( not a song ) I thought maybe something like field fare or something. Am stumped ! Any ideas
Hi Sarah
I'm wondering if they could be Redwing. They are known to migrate at night and make a sort of "tseep" call. Do they sound anything like this.

The most common bird I hear flying at night is the Oystercatcher. HERE
