I spotted what I thought was a robin in countryside near Rugby earlier this week. It looked and moved just like a robin - except that it had black wings with distinctive white markings, and a grey chest. Most of its upper body was dark coloured. Any ideas as to what this could be? I didn't get a chance to take a picture, unfortunately!
Hello TeeJay - I didn't get a clear view of its tail but otherwise it looks very similar. The wings in particular were very distinctive. I think that's the most likely explanation.
Thank you very much!
It could be something like a Black Redstart, Joanna. There are small numbers in the UK. This is the best photograph of one that I have. Anything like what you saw?
That's going to be a tough one Joanna without a photo.
Hopefully someone will have an Idea for you.
