Catlady's Garden - Update 16/01/23

  • Thanks all. Mid December 2018 Ann, pre pandemic!! It has been long a slog with work supposed to have happened etc etc, then eventually we got used to seeing the lovely views out to the hills beyond and months went into years!! Now each night we see fantastic difference (weather permitting, this last week not), the stone is changing colour, can't wait to see the finished result. Then the side grass is going to be taken to ground level and that part of the wall rebuilt, same stone as back wall, it is very sandy and the wall is being forced, there is already a huge hole in the centre where stone has popped with the force, fingers crossed it all holds until they get to that part. The oil tank is going to be moved so we will have a huge area which we will mostly grass over (will be safe then to use the ride on mower, just now the push mower has to be used, the other reason for leveling the ground, as it is about a 6 feet incline, got to think about our old age, well when we get there that is) !! I will leave a border at the wall to plant trees and shrubs, so we can at some point have some privacy again from the main road, like now with the side being so high. The gateposts are going to be widened and the driveway widend and tarred. Well that is what is plamned, so hopefully it will all go to plan. I will update with photos during the work.

After that is all paid for we will be living on bread and water!!

  • I have had a good read of your thread and all of your garden experiences

Wow what a large lawn you have - Dave had a look at your photos and he said he would love to mow it anyday. Dave loves mowing and hoovering and that is unusual for a guy but he enjoys himself doing domestic jobs around the house LOL and I never have to ask him.

You have taken pride in your garden and well done you for all of your hard work.

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave

  • Thanks peewee, we do have a large front lawn, not so much the sides and back, I have to use the push mower round the trees and sides but have a ride on for the main lawn, that is my baby! I think Mr CL has used it twice. I am a bit OCD when it come to the grass and like it just so, neatly cut and no bits missed or clumps lying loose. Think that is why he just leaves it to me! Our wall is coming on a treat, the main part to the fieild is finished and today the top coping stones went on, looks great. Will get some photos on soon.

Have to say so many interpretations of Peewit to think about Peewit, Peewee and Lapwing all the same bird. Like Peewit the best of the bunch to be honest.

Wow - you have a vehicle mower to cut your lawn, and a push mower. How long does it take to complete the task in hand?

Dave's eyes are on stalks now

Look forward to seeing your photo's to show your completion of your tasks in hand

  • In reply to Peewit:

Hi again, we have 5 different parts that have grass needing to be cut. Outside our garden at the road side, two separate bits, not very wide but quite long, maybe 15mins, a small piece at the bottom of the garden over the wall and a very long strip up the length of our garden and beyond ( neighbour shares this) maybe another 10 mins, in garden to the side (where the oil tank is) 30 mins and around the parameter of the main lawn, round trees, maybe 15 mins, that is all with the propelled push mower. We then have a piece at the back maybe 15 x 30 feet but to get to it you have to go over loose stones, so we have a little electric mower, that takes maybe 30 min. THEN my baby comes out the ride on, I can cut the front lawn in 20-30mins. Of course every now and again all the edges have to be strimmed! Well you did ask!!

  • In reply to Catlady:

Well that is sods law for you, Catlady.

So much better with a bigger boys toy to cover your insignificant push mower.

If I had a lawn your size I would buy the big boy mowers anyday.

And keep a strimmer to keep the grass down around posts, tree trunks and any other awkward places

Got to be done for an easy life.
