Hello Emily, I wouldn't worry about the disappearance of the blue tits as often birds start to build nests, some even laying eggs and then abandon them; it could be for a number of reasons, maybe they feel threatened by a predator, climatic conditions or spooked by something or simply decided to relocate. We often have activity in the nest boxes with nesting materials being taken in and then the birds have a change of mind and disappear. We have on occasion found one or two eggs in the box so the bird started laying and then for unknown reason (maybe one of the garden squirrels or corvids harassing it) it decided to abandon the nesting box/site. Just leave the box as it is and you may be lucky enough to have the Great Tits or another bird start using it. Never try taking it down or cleaning the box until at least the end of September after the breeding season has finished. Good luck, hope you see some fledglings this season.

Exact same thing happened to my daughter. We were so excited when the blue tits began building in the nest box, and then they just didn't come back.

I've no blue tits in the garden this year. They didn't nest and aren't around. I miss them so much especially when they're newly fledged and being fed! They are so cute. I love the fresh newbies!!!
This year has been rather sad in my garden for birds all round.
Same here, I had loads last year coming to my feeder so this January I’ve put two woodcrete bird nesting boxes up one facing north east and one at the back of my garden facing north it’s my first attempt to get them nesting in them but I haven’t seen one blue tit yet is it a bit to early in the year as there doesn’t seem to be any at all showing up
