Using rice to feed birds

Hello everyone, was hoping someone could help as I get mixed messages when googling it. Can rice be fed to birds and does it cause any harm? I use bought seed from local providers but a gentleman near my work pours a whole bag of rice for pigeons to eat every single day and I just wanted to make sure it is not going to cause them any harm. Thanks

I think plain unsalted rice is fine for birds. Someone will know for sure

Unsalted cooked rice is OK and nutritious but as you will see uncooked rice may be eaten by Doves, Pigeons etc but is not readily taken by other birds. It doesn't say you shouldn't put it out though.

Well it is only eaten by pigeons, never seen any other birds take to it. Was worried and thought I may have to report it but looks like its ok. Still think he should use proper bird seed though :-)
