Baby magpie

Hi, we’ve found a baby magpie with feathers in our garden. We think it’s fallen out of its nest but had to put it in a box to save it from our cat getting it. We’ve been feeding it worms. How often do we need to feed it and is there anyone that we can contact to come and collect the magpie? Thank you! Emily x

  • Look at the post about finding young birds?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • There is a post regarding the 'best practice' re finding young birds, and what to do in different situations.

Re this common example you refer to, the best practice is to leave the wildlife outside (as they're better off with their parents) and bring the pet inside.

A magpie nest is a bulky thing, so if it had fallen out of a nest, the nest would be both obvious and visible in a tree in your garden.

Obviously, good luck with whatever you decide to do. Unfortunately, it's a common occurrence where people try to do their best, but do so by boxing up a young bird, bringing it to 'safety' then asking what to do. Too late then.
