Upgrade?

Hi Den, I rarely use bins, I prefer a camera and can only carry so much (I'm a lazy birder lol) but the first piece of advice would be to try some out. A lot of reserves have dedicated optics days that are advertised. The 2nd bit of advice is find a budget and stick to it.

I would definitely go for it - if you're using them a lot you'll notice a real improvement getting something from a higher budget bracket. As PB says though, go into a shop where you can try a selection out, it's the only way you can be confident they're right for you

Hi PimperneBloke, I like using a camera as well, but there's another thought I had, I think it's time to upgrade my thus far favourite lens!! Then there's the problem of getting camera and binoculars tangled, but I do like using both. Yes, sticking to a budget focusses the mind.

Hello Whistling Joe, I think that was the advice I was hoping for - that you'll notice an improvement. I've a list ready and will head off to try out some.

I have commented on here previously about the criteria to use when buying bins-
Price, size, magnification , new or good second hand etc.

The number one rule is buy the best you can afford

The number two rule is - let the binoculars choose you- try several pairs before choosing

The number three rule is - remember that a good second hand pair of a top quality brand is better than a new pair of a lower quality brand

Thanks for the tips seymouraves, you're right I should consider second hand as well. I've done so in the past for cameras and lenses and have had some good buys.
