Removal of dead fledgling

Good afternoon,

I have a bird box which has a family of blue tits in it, I’ve been watching for a couple of weeks, but approximately 10 minutes ago saw some unusual activity, mum came out after pecking the entrance hole for a while, then turned back and seemingly dragged what looked like a dead fledgling out and flew off . Is this quite a normal occurrence please?

Thanks in advance

  • Sadly nature will take its course BP, iIf the young one has died, the parent will remove it. Sometimes not, only a few days ago someone posted that the parent was sitting in the nest with a dead and two live babies, and was asking whether thy should remove the dead one. Hopefully you will have nestlings to see around the gareen.
