Pigeon with bird flu ?

New to the group so apologies if this is in the wrong area !

we have a lot of pigeons in our garden and over the past few days we’ve noticed one of them acting strange on the bird bath.

it takes a drink then stands very upright, almost toppling over backwards, it looks like it coughing or having trouble swallowing?

is this normal?

not noticed it before, any advise ?

it moves around, flies in and out the garden ok

  • I'm not an expert, so cannot give any answer.

It is possible the pigeon has swallowed something awkwardly and just as we do, having a drink and some hiccups to try and resolve the situation. But this is purely a wild guess, and hopefully someone may be able to give a more definitive answer.

  • `pigeons can also contract trich. and/or sour crop - it might be an idea to give the bird bath a really good scrub and disinfect

I never thought of  sour crop, though I have seen in adult hens and cockerels, and you could have a very valid line of thought.
