Aggressive housing developer & Loud Bird scarer

I am new here - Hi! I was hoping to find some advice or pointers. I have moved from town to a village a year ago and noticed that there have been very loud bangs with plumes of smoke from the field near us but only recently. I guess it is a bird scarer but it does seem extremely loud. We have an aggressive housing developer shown interest in putting loads of new houses on the field and have been known to run rough shod over other villages & gone ahead despite villagers and local councils all opposing. I was wondering if they are trying to get rid of protected birds/animals before a planning application goes in. Is there any advice anyone can give how I could check this out? We dont want the houses and we have spent the last year attracting all sorts of birds to our garden too & want to keep them - so double whammy! Thanks :)

Hi Tracey & welcome to the forum. Around here they use bird scarers at seed sowing time & when the young crops are growing. I can't imagine why they would use them in the middle of winter. Can you see what is growing in that field? If there isn't anything much, perhaps you could complain to the council about the unecessary noise & disturbance to winter birds (& yourselves).

    Best wishes

Hello Tracy and welcome from me up at the top, in Caithness. Odd behaviour right enough. As Noisette says, odd that they would be scaring birds at present against seed that has been sown. Look into it, hope they are not trying to scare birds just to be able to get a housing site built. Good luck.
