Spam

  • I would have thought that monitorng the forum was a job fairly easily done from home ! LOL
For the last 18 months or so I've been a semi-official (along with others) on an insect site in France. It is also bombarded by spam (most of which get kicked out before they post a comment), but all new members have to wait until one of the team confirms their first post before it goes "public". Usually only a few minutes to an hour, but it works well. Anyone who is genuine doesn't mind an initial wait.

    Best wishes

  • I’ve complained about Spam every year since the RSPB Community Forums started and it’s got worse over recent years and no member of Staff ever seems to take any notice, I don’t bother complaining now. I’ve even emailed, phoned as well many times and on one occasion I took my complaint right to the top of management to Mike Clarke the executive director at the RSPB at that time and had a reply from Mike Clarke, but still nothing changed. A number of long term members of this forum sadly have left because of this. I hope others might succeed better than I did over forthcoming years. But it’s much worse now with no regular checks from any moderators. At one time we all knew all the moderators by name led by Claire(Mrs T), but for various reasons that I won’t go into, that doesn't happen now. The moderators used to regularly post on this forum 7 days a week including weekends and the evenings as well. And Claire(Mrs T) always had fun polls plus a nightly poll during Springwatch where you could vote on various options of which was your favourite from that evenings Springwatch. Also you could ask a question or query about the RSPB and Claire(Mrs T) would try to get an answer from the management of the RSPB and she always came back with a reply. They where enjoyable days, but sadly no more. If there are any moderators now as I suppose there are. I don't any of them by name. On very rare occasions I have seen a moderator post, but not regularly and I don’t know how many moderators there are now. But this forum was at one time regularly checked 7 days a week. Even on Christmas Day one or two moderators would still post.

    Regards,

    Ian.
