Once it had stopped snowing & the roads cleared i thought i'd' better nip to the shops& get some food for me & the birds,
well, looking through the birds seeds,suet blocks & fat balls, i found a one kilo bag of meal worms, ( i don't buy them cos they are too expensive ) it was only £14.99 , What a bargain, could not leave that on the shelf,
My birds can have an early xmas tomorrow

I made my own fat cakes a couple of weeks back.
Just used tesco value lard, which was 26p. The last few slices of a loaf a bread that had gone dry. A handful of peanuts, and handful of seed mix , which was on offer in a local garden centre.
I whizzed the bread and peanuts up in a food blended to granulate them, and set the whole lot in those microwavable containers you get from the takeaway. Two blocks of lard, filled two of those containers to the top.
I have been waiting for the weather to colder to put them out, as lard goes softer at a higher temperature than suet. They have clearly been a hit, as they have shunned the fat balls I have bought for my mix! ;o)
